Easier Driver’s License Exchange for Czechs in Alberta

Starting in November 2025, the province of Alberta will officially recognize Czech driver’s licenses without the need for additional testing. Holders of a valid Czech driver’s license will be able to exchange it for an Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (for private, non-commercial use).
To qualify for the exchange, applicants must present:
- A valid Czech driver’s license,
- An official English translation,
- Proof of medical fitness, and
- A successful vision test.
Drivers with less than 24 months of driving experience will need to take a test under the Graduated Driver Licensing Exemption Program. Depending on the results, they will receive either a probationary Class 5 license or a full Class 5 license.
This change takes effect on November 3, 2025, and simplifies the process for Czech citizens residing in Alberta who wish to drive privately without undergoing further examinations.
